Long time attendee/dealer/etc.. of SC and Thundercon. I was happy to see it start back up again a couple years back and jumped at the chance to support the Con. I've run events for the past three years for the gaming room and looked forward to it each year.
Unfortunately this year had a number of issues...
Low attendance. I heard that Gaming attendance overall was down. I heard from a number of regulars that they would not be attending this year due to the cost. I would suggest next year of having a "Gamers Pass" with limited access to areas of the con.. Most gamers spend most of their time in the game room (and possibly a stroll through the dealers room to see if there are and games for sale).
Lack of involvement of the local game shops. There were a few shops but not many. Have them sponsor events/games or run them. I was very fortunate to have a shop doante $100 for one of my events. I imagine they would love to support SC more directly - maybe trading off for advertising. I wanted to say I was VERY impressed to see the Fantasy Flight team there demo'ing games. I'll also say I am always impressed by the Warhammer events that Battlefields runs - great job guys!
Lastly the Biggie - What the heck was up with the limited operating times for the gaming room??? C'mon, gamers want to stay up til' all hours getting in some games - We were given the "Bums Rush" out of the gaming room on Friday and Saturday nite. We had to pick up all of our tables/displays and set them up all over again the next day... This one really set me off - We deserved better treatement that what we recieved... I hope there are measures to address it for the future.
Even with all of the issues we were able to run a fun and memorable event Saturday. I hope you take some of these as constructive critisims (not a rant) and can help out in some of the areas I've mentioned. Thanks, D
